Caterpillar DPF Delete

Caterpillar DPF delete tuning is available for compatible diesel engines used in eligible off-highway applications. Availability depends on the engine model, model year and configuration.

The DPF, or diesel particulate filter, captures soot and certain contaminants from the exhaust stream. Over time, its operation and regeneration cycles may increase maintenance requirements and vehicle downtime.

How do the DPF and regeneration process work?

The DPF gradually collects soot from the engine’s exhaust gases. It must then reach a high temperature to burn part of the accumulated material. This cleaning process is known as regeneration.

To reach the required temperature, the vehicle may need to travel at more than 45 mph. It generally needs to maintain this speed during the cycle. Regeneration may take up to 45 minutes and occur approximately every 300 miles.

When the required conditions are not reached, regeneration may be interrupted or incomplete. The DPF may then become clogged. This can increase maintenance requirements and vehicle downtime.

Potential benefits of Caterpillar DPF delete tuning

Results vary according to the engine model, mechanical condition, application and selected calibration. For a compatible off-highway application, potential benefits may include:

  • Fewer regeneration cycles: removing the DPF eliminates the cleaning cycles associated with the filter.
  • Reduced downtime: it may limit operating interruptions caused by a clogged DPF or incomplete regeneration.
  • Potential fuel savings: the engine no longer uses fuel to perform DPF regeneration.
  • Engine response: a suitable calibration may improve engine response and overall operation.
