Why DPF Delete?
The DPF is designed to perform the important role of capturing soot and exhaust contaminants before it has a chance to be released into the environment. Cleaning this component can be problematic because the automatic cleaning process—known as regeneration—requires certain driving conditions to be met before it can properly clean itself. For regeneration to occur, a driver must maintain a speed of at least 45 miles per hour for up to 45 minutes to produce enough heat to burn off the filter’s contaminants. If a driver is unable to meet these conditions, regeneration fails and the DPF can become clogged, which may require repair or replacement. In addition, a clogged DPF can negatively impact the engine, requiring costly repairs or leading to premature engine failure. Many owner-operators and fleet managers prefer to delete the DPF to avoid the hassle and expense of repairs associated with DPF failure. Not to mention, the following benefits are also associated with DPF removal:
- Improved fuel economy: Regeneration requires fuel in order to occur, so deleting the DPF will also help improve fuel economy, a key operating cost for owner-operators and fleet managers.
